Ø    WIM to VHD—Windows WIM Image file to Virtual Hard Drive (VHD) Script Converter.

Hyper - V is a technology included within Windows Server 2008 R2 that is capable of running VHD images (or virtual Hard Drive Images) natively.

It includes some very advanced features in the virtualization space, but one to note when working with WIM images under MDT 2010 is that you can now convert a WIM image into a virtual VHD file by Running a conversion script.

This is a very handy feature to be aware of when working with disk images. Once converted, Windows 2008 Server R2 allows you to boot into a small boot partition that then enables the VHD (either native or Converted from a WIM file) onto another partition. One spin off is that you get a performance advantage from running this on a server.

Something I suggest you look into with respect to image building and rapid image design using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010.
